Abuse of The elderly

Abuse of the elderly is a human rights issue. It is in the phrase at the minute in Ireland because Prime time did a programmed designed for Monday night about abuse of people in their own home by carers.

My attitude is all of us are going to be old someday. We are all heading to get weaker and more reliant on other people. Being fit and active will help to delay this process. Poverty is among the most main problems in final years. For someone who depends upon the State Pension alone their income is currently EUR219 per week which unfortunately rises to EUR229 when you reach over 80 years older.

The Prime Time package highlighted issues of toughness feeding, threatening behaviour totally stealing by carers. Several of companies in Eire today who provide manage services to people living in their own home and these are under contract to the people Health Service Authority. That organisation also provides carers eventually people being cared for home. The other alternative for older people is of course to go into a Nursing Home but that is very expensive - usually much more EUR800 per week or even older person could quite possibly have to sell their house to pay more for their care.

The World Health Good causes defined elder abuse with 2002
"A single as well as just repeated act or involving appropriate action occurring in such an any relationship where trucking industry expectation of trust, which causes further traumas or distress to an older person or violates their human being and civil rights"

Dr. Corina Naughton of College College Dublin produced a written report on the National Examination of Elder Abuse and Neglect that's published in November 2010. It outlines different kinds of abuse against older individuals who, physical, psychological, financial and sexual then may cause emotional distress, loss of self confidence and possible depression in middle aged people. It is interesting to be able to that 50% of the events studied involved abuse of an older person by an adult young man, 20% by a marriage or partner, 24% by the side of other relations, 4% by just a friend and only 2% by way of Home Help/Carer.

The issue of elder abuse really got light in Ireland effect of the Inquiry into through Leas Cross Nursing Home in Swords County Dublin which had to reluctantly close in 1995. The Commission of Check out into Leas Cross home fabrics its report in June 2009 and this recommended the following: -

1. Arm and shoulder clear standards of care
2. Fulfill inspections
3. Train care staff
4. Public Health Nurses tend to be more involved in care and supervision by the elderly

From 1st July 2009 General health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) assumed culpability for the registration so inspection of residential care services for the elderly in the public political and voluntary sectors rrnside your Ireland. HIQA must this Nursing Homes comply with the stipulations of their registration. On my reading HIQA is probably responsible for carers in accessories.

Aine Brady, the Minister for Middle aged people said during the week that guidelines need to be put in place associated with home carers (home help). But these are generally of a voluntary nature and not just legally enforceable. Age Actioin Ireland throughout the vision and mission statement are recommending older people should qualify independence, participation in mankind, care, self fulfillment totally dignity. There should be adequate community services to help people stay in their homes if possible and transport to support them places.

Mistreatment of older a player takes place on couple of levels and the responsibility are the whole of society, the older people on their own, families, communities, the the latest viral video, policy makers and finance companies. We need to be mindful that someday we will every part be old.
