Selecting an Assisted Living Facility - The Feel Is very important

I'm here larger Margie Veis, the Engineering Director of Summerhill Family home, an Assisted Living facility in order to Santa Clarita, California.

KH: How long have you been doing this?

MV: I have been an executive director for ten years, all of them within to Summerhill Villa.

KH:: What should people look for when they choose local business? Cleanliness of course...

MV: Right. Obviously you need to walk into the building and be based upon your gut. You want to check out the residents. You want to check out the staff. You like to see what the physical feel is just like. If you walk in also it smells like urine, you're going to walk out. If you walk - in and people looked ungroomed, you're going to go out of.

What's the longevity in the staff? Does the staff engage the residents? What does the dining room feel like? Do within the residents look happy? Do they look clean? Do you feel like you're getting a sell, like you're buying a car? Like you've reached decide right now?

Those are red lights to me. This is a transformational event, so you need expertise that you trust the person that you're talking with and that it makes sense. I think the biggest thing is what is your gut fore warning you? I think another important thing is "How long are you currently here? Why do you're employed here? What's your personnel like? What's your history? "

I think those are crucial things. Again, you remember the building. You can take pleasure in the staff. Many people catch up in the numbers: "What's across the staffing ratio? What time are lunch or dinner times? Do you have special diets? "

Really, you wish to know who you are settling your parent with. Exactly who is responsible for that building in addition to executive director is only just like her managers and his or her care givers. How long have your managers visited? How long have your care givers visited? What's their background? What's their training? "

That's what you will see. You don't want a revolving door where you will discover a high staff turnover and no stability. You want to realise that the people treating your loved one know what they are doing and are dedicated to what they're doing.
